Alyssa Lloyd Feedback on Post #1

Alyssa, I really enjoyed reading your blog post! Your enthusiasm for expanding your knowledge on technology in education speaks volumes to your flexibility and passion as a teacher. I agree, that I look forward to the information we receive in this course and developing a deeper confidence with various online platforms and programs to share with our future students. I look forward to sharing resources with you that I find useful! I like how you break down and define both a Technology-centered and Learner-centered approach to education. I connect more with the Learner-centred approach because I believe that learning starts with the student, and multimedia should be used to enhance their learning experiences and use technology supplement their resources. I agree with the statement that multimedia education is used as a tool to help students become more engaged in their learning. Research and experience show that every learner is different and has different needs. Multimedia education allows teachers to use multiple means of delivery when teaching to meet more needs of each student. You provide a thoughtful blogpost, which makes me reflect on my own education experiences and the multimedia options that I had. I look forward to following along on your journey, and what you learn, and the resource that you cultivate.

Maeve, you provided an insightful blog post! I enjoy how you explain that multimedia learning and instruction is not as complex as it sounds. You provide reassurance that most people are already providing multiple forms of media without realizing it. This acknowledgement allowed me to reflect on lessons plans I have taught in the past and make connections to multimedia instruction. I feel reassured in my ability to be able to integrate this form of instruction into my teaching style. You provide an illuminating summary of Mayer’s key points from the first chapter of his handbook. I agree, that the analogy of how a bicycle pump works was a perfect way to describe how multimedia instruction enhances learning and the comprehension of knowledge. Thank you for your informative breakdown of sketch noting! I am not very familiar with the concept, but I do agree, that adding visual cues to information helps improve the brains comprehension and memory. I like the connection you make between this form of note-taking and second languages, another subject this would be great for is science. There are a lot of complex vocabulary terms in science but adding a pictorial cue can make all the difference. I look forward to reading your next blog post!

Erin, I appreciate your desire to research and understand both the pros and cons of technology-based learning. This will help you teach from an informed place and provide the best instruction for your students. I agree that technology allows us a greater variety of instructional methods and it a good tool to aid students in their learning. However, I acknowledge your hesitancy with the technology related buy-in, and the importance of questioning it. There is still a lot we are all learning about technology and how it helps the brain with the processing and comprehension of new information. I agree that there is still lots of information that we can learn about how each student processes information differently through various instructional methods. You have eloquently shared one of the most important parts of teaching which is getting to your students and recognize what tools they need to be successful in their learning. I think technology is a fabulous bonus tool in education, however, I agree that it should be used as an aid when needed and not the main focus. You have provided a comprehensive reflection of the readings for this week’s topics. You deliver an enlightening and thought-provoking statement about teaching in qualitative formats and that teaching using a multimedia format is not solely about a quantitative approach but rather allowing the multiple means of representation to complement each other to further enhance student’s comprehension. You wrote a brilliant blog post, which caused me to stop and question and reflect while reading it. Thank you!
