Inquiry in the Classroom

Inquiry-based learning focuses on the idea that educators and students both share the responsibility for learning. This learning style revolves around student’s ideas, interests, and observations. Inquiry-based learning engages students in evidence-based reasoning and creative problem solving. This approach emphasizes learning by doing, and knowledge construction through exploration, experimentation, and experience. By allowing students to have a say in what and how they learn, it encourages students to take ownership of their ideas, concepts, and observations. Supporting students with this methodology allows the teacher to become a facilitator of learning, and enables the teacher and students to co-construct a curriculum which engages the students and cultivates a love of learning.
