Response to Alyssa Lloyd's Blog Post #3

Feedback on Alyssa Lloyd's blog post #3 regarding topic #3 questions: How can you ensure equitable access to authentic, meaningful & relevant learning environments for all learners in K-12 open and distributed learning contexts? What did you already know, what do you know now based on the course readings and activities, what do you hope to learn?

Alyssa, thank you for your honest blog post. Your candid concerns about being a new teach with little to no funding to build a classroom is an anxiety I also experience. You mention the desire to apply for various grants to aid your budget funding, do you have any specific grants in mind?

The classroom that you describe sounds like an education dream! Full of tools to enhance learning and options for children to explore. Students will be lucky to have you; a teacher who is passionate about cultivating an equitable and successful opportunity for every student with little funding and resources to start with.

Thank you for sharing the GoNoodle, “Don’t Read Like a Robot” video. This is a fun way to explain to students how to read with expression. This would be a good addition to a scaffolded unit talking about oral reading elements, including, expression, tone, punctuation, annunciation, etc.

I like that you recognize the real challenge of students checking out in their learning. This can be a common occurrence and demonstrates the importance of making meaningful and relevant learning opportunities. In addition, is reveals the significance of equitable education. Students each need to be provided with the proper tools to succeed; when they feel and experience success, they will be more likely to become engaged in their learning rather than checking out.

I have enjoyed following along on your learning journey during this course and having the opportunity to provide feedback and further collaborate with you. With our mutual interest in teaching primary grades, I will be eager to stay in touch via our Personal Learning Networks, collaborating on future assignments, and sharing resources. This upcoming will be a learning curve for the education world, and I believe we will learn a lot about open learning in the primary grades through observations and communication with teachers and their adapted learning environments.
